According to the Ministry of Health, the harsh weather conditions that hit Western Attica in the early hours of Wednesday resulted in 15 people dead and 17 people injured and hospitalized. Great damages have been caused in Mandra, Nea Peramos and the broader area of Megara. Rushing waters cut roads in half, destroyed house yards, swept off cars, and flooded houses and stores. Rescue teams made great efforts to help people trapped in their houses.
At the same time, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance has ordered an urgent preliminary investigation to establish whether criminal offences have been committed, including town planning violations. A procedure is also already in place to house residents, whose houses have been destroyed, in army facilities and hotels.
