This year's Dimitria, the festival held by the Thessaloniki Municipality for the 53rd year, will run from September 29 to October 21.

The program will open with a recital at the allied military cemetery of Zeitenlik, which contains the remains of World War I soldiers from France, Italy, Britain and Russia. It will include performances and art shows, among other events.

The theme this year will focus on social movements that changed the world, including the May '68 events, and coinciding with the centenary this year of the end of WWI, vice-mayor Elli Chrysidou told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

According to last year's data, 61,585 peple attended events at 23 sites in the city, while 85 volunteered for them.
