The newspaper “L’ Echo”, claiming sources from the Belgian Ministry of Finance, states that Belgium will pay a total of 221.8 million euros to Athens, as part of the European Central Bank’s profits from the Greek bonds.

In 2010, the European Central Bank (ECB) had repurchased Greek government debt, which allowed the Eurosystem (the ECB and the national central banks) to make a profit.

As part of the completion of Greece’s third funding program, the Eurozone member states have agreed to return these profits to our country.

The money will be used to reduce Greece’s financing needs or to finance those investments that will be approved by the creditors.
