Hydra has been declared in a state of emergency, upon request of the Attica Region, as there is no electricity or water supply on the island. Since Sunday morning, Hydra has no electricity due to a problem in the substation of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) in Kranidi. HEDNO crews have been trying to restore the damage, but it is still unknown when this will be possible.

The damage in the electricity supply also affected the operation of the island’s desalination plant, causing problems to water supply. A water-bearing vessel of the Hellenic Navy has already reached the island, in order to respond to the water-supply needs of the inhabitants.
