Addressing the Parliamentary Committee for Financial Affairs, to which the preliminary draft budget for 2018 was produced, Alternate Finance Minister George Chouliarakis stressed that this draft, as well as the final draft that will be presented to the Parliament on November 21st, include no additional measures. With the conclusion of the third review, we essentially enter the last part of the adjustment program, he said, adding, “The remaining prerequisites concern the implementation of already legislated actions and are limited in number. So, essentially, the program ends with the conclusion of the third review. Not typically, but essentially”.
Mr. Chouliarakis also explained that the budget balance of 2017 is a surplus of 2.8% of GDP and that the government intends to distribute part of the surplus to the poorest households, based on social criteria.
