The procedures for the demolition of illegal buildings that are deemed dangerous for public safety following the fatal fire at Mati, as well as the investigation of the role played by the dozens of barriers that block access to the sea, the trails not visible by pedestrians and the narrow streets that trapped drivers, are set to begin immediately.

These are pathogenic situations that have been existing for decades and involve constructions that were initially illegal, but were later incorporated into the city planning.

The authorities are aiming at the immediate demolition of illegal buildings blocking access to the Saronic Gulf beach, Anavyssos and Porto Rafti, as well as illegal buildings within streams in Mandra, where the devastating floods occurred in November 2017.
