Secretary General for Media and Communication Lefteris Kretsos presented on Tuesday the hybrid services platform to be launched by Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation-ERT, at the 6th Annual HbbTV Symposium taking place in Rome on 17-18 October 2017.
Kretsos said that ERT hybrid television platform will improve the citizens’ television experience but it will also pave the way for innovative, interactive technologies towards for a new future oriented audiovisual environment. ERT’s hybrid platform will be launched in November 2017 and will offer free access to all.
Hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV) is a global initiative aimed at harmonizing the broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment services to consumers through connected TVs, set-top boxes and multiscreen devices. The HbbTV specification is developed by industry leaders to improve the video user experience for consumers by enabling innovative, interactive services over broadcast and broadband networks. The specification uses elements of existing specifications from other standards including OIPF, CEA, DVB, MPEG-DASH and W3C.
The aim of the Symposium is the exchange of know-how among the countries where hybrid services are offered, as well as the presentation of developments in the sector’s technology.
