After eight difficult years for citizens and the country, Greece has officially exited the bailout programs. European officials have welcomed this outcome, however adding that the country must continue down the road to reforms.

“For the first time since early 2010, Greece can stand on its own feet,” Eurogroup President Mário Centeno said in a statement. “This was possible thanks to the extraordinary effort of the Greek people and the support of European partners through loans and debt relief,” he added.

With a message written in Greek, European Council President Donald Tusk congratulated our country, saying that Greece has seized the day, thanks to the huge efforts of its people and European solidarity.

The end of the program marks a very significant and historic moment for all and especially for the Greek people, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici stressed on his part.
