In a television address to the citizens of his country, FYROM’s President Gjorge Ivanov said that the text of the agreement with Greece is demeaning. Mr. Ivanov stated that this agreement cannot be accepted, as it calls for a constitutional amendment and thus violates the country’s constitutional order and legal status.

Following Ivanov’s address, FYROM’s government proclaimed that “citizens and not the President are the one deciding for the future of the country”, and called Ivanov to step down from the political scene. “The government is sorry to realize that President Gjorge Ivanov, in his address, did not overcome his failure to see the prospects opening up as a result of the agreement reached these last few days with the Greek government,” reads the government announcement.
