For the second year, in the context of the Epidaurus’ Lyceum’s parallel events, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival is organizing the “Educating the public on ancient drama” program, which takes place in collaboration with the Theater Studies Department of the University of Peloponnese, with the support of the City of Nafplio and the Peloponnese Prefecture, Argolida Division, and in partnership with the Argolida Ephorate of Antiquities, and the Departments of Primary and Secondary Education of Argolida.
The program regards putting together short experiential theatrical workshops and lectures on plays to be staged next year at Epidaurus. Designed under the scientific supervision of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and the Theater Studies Department of the University of Peloponnese, these workshops are meant for residents, instructors and students in all years of education, and will be carried out by experienced theater professionals and artists. The theme of the 2018 Epidaurus Festival, “State and the Citizen”, provides the inspiration for these workshops and concurrent activities and lectures.
The program’s activities, divided into 4 sections, begin on February 26, with the Festival’s artistic director, Vangelis Theodoropoulos, speaking at Nafplion’s Vouleftikon on the reasoning behind the program, and on Aristophanes’ Thesmophoriazousae, which he will be directing this year at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. In the coming months, he will be followed by other artists presenting their work at Epidaurus: Kostas Filippoglou (March 19), Konstantinos Ntellas (May 7), and Martha Frintzila (May 21).
