For the fourth consecutive year, the Athens International Airport welcomes the Greek National Opera’s Intercultural Choir for a concert that will take airport visitors and passengers on a multicultural “journey”, on Saturday May 26.
The Choir will perform a repertoire of traditional songs from the countries of origin of some of the choir’s members.
The Intercultural Choir was founded in 2016 as an initiative of the GNO Alternative Stage and the Learning & Participation department. Its members, who are permanent or temporary residents of Athens, are from different countries of origin such as Ukraine, Cameroon, Slovakia, Tanzania, New Guinea, Syria, UK, USA, Greece, Iran, Kenya, Iraq and more.
During the current artistic season, the Intercultural choir has organized workshops in refugee camps, community centres and immigrants’ residencies. The Choir also performed open-air concerts at the Kypseli and Omonoia squares.
The concert is part of the “Fly me to the Moon” programme, a joint cooperation between the Athens International Airport and the elculture cultural platform. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is the event’s major donor.
