Greek stocks ended slightly higher in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday helped by selective buying in blue chip stocks such as PPC, Piraeus Bank and Alpha Bank. The general index of the market rose 0.37 pct to end at 751.35 points. The Large Cap index rose 0.38 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 0.52 pct highegr. Turnover was a low 40.339 million euros with 36,094,396 shares.
PPC (4.79 pct), Piraeus Bank (4.10 pct) and Alpha Bank (3.07 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day among blue chip stocks, while Viohalco (1.92 pct), Mytilineos (1.29 pct) and Lamda Development (1.23 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Health (3.59 pct), Utilities (3.10 pct) and Banks (1.73 pct) scored big gains, while Raw Materials (1.29 pct) and Industrial Products (1.18 pct) suffered losses.
National Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, advancers led decliners by 54 to 45 with another 22 issues unchanged. ANEK (19.67 pct), Chatzikranioti (18.92 pct), Centric (14.19 pct) were top gainers, while Boutaris (19.35 pct), Pairis (17.14 pct) and GEKE (9.25 pct) were top losers.
