A variety of activities for children and adults is offered by the Acropolis Museum as part of its holiday season planning, with musical performances, workshops and opportunities to enjoy the holiday treats and the festive atmosphere abounding.
On Saturday, December 23, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, Museum visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a tour through the Parthenon Hall, accompanied by the sounds of Thodoris Matoulas and Thanos Marietis, performing works by Kirchner, Vivaldi, Bach, Purcell, and others.
At 11:00 am on Christmas Eve, at the Museum’s ground floor, the Athens State Orchestra’s “Quintarco” String Quintet of the Athens State Orchestra will be performing cheerful Christmas songs and classical melodies, including excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker”, as well as Brahms’s and Skalkotas’s Dances.
At he same time on New Year’s Eve, at the same location, the Athens State Orchestra’s “Metallon” Brass and Percussion Group will perform famous Christmas and jazz melodies, including works by Mendelssohn, Bizet and Strauss.

«Build your own temple out of Legos» – Workshop for children 7-11 years old
Children visiting the museum during the holidays will have the opportunity to use their imagination to create buildings of their own, drawing their inspiration from the Acropolis temples, columns, and column caps, and using white Legos!
When: December 16-17; 11am & 1pm

«Planet of the myths» – Workshop for children 4-12 years old and their chaperons
This workshop has children and adults roaming the homelands of mythical peoples, heroes and monsters, as they map their own place on Earth of myths, illuminating the sky’s dome.
When: December 23 & 30, 11 am – 6 pm; December 24 & 31, 11 am – 2 pm
Admission is free; no reservation required. The activity starts at the 2nd floor balcony.
«A tour through the Acropolis Museum with an archaeologist» – Themed presentation for children 4-12 years old and their chaperons
Guided by a museum archaeologist, children and adults travel to the world of myths, creatures of nature and art, letters and numbers, themselves choosing the exhibits that interest them.
When: December 27-29, 11am – 1pm
Admission is free for children; museum ticket purchase is necessary for adults. Reservations by phone are required at 210 9000900 (ext 405), on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm. Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, up to a maximum of 20 children and one chaperon per activity.
The museum’s good luck charm for 2018 will also be available at the museum’s gift shop, while the museum’s restaurant will be offering traditional festive dishes and desserts. On Fridays, acclaimed musicians in the Athens jazz scene will be performing for patrons. Reservations for the restaurant can be made by phone at 210 9000915.
