Information on tax evasion and smuggling cases of 2016, for which taxes, fines and surcharges were collected, was presented by the Finance Ministry to the Greek Parliament, together with the budget for 2018. The relevant report shows that from January to August 2017, the audit centers and the tax offices conducted 16,640 audits, and that 2.568 billion euros were collected from taxes, fines and surcharges.

According to the information by the Finance Ministry, 742,922 e-mails were sent in 2016 to taxpayers with arrears to the State, warning them to settle their debts. 442,711 out of these taxpayers responded to the warning and 274.76 million euros were collected.
