Representatives of organizations and residents of Mati and Neos Voutzas, in East Attica, met on Friday with Interior Minister Panos Skourletis to brief him on remuneration and restoration of their areas after a wildfire that claimed the lives of nearly 100 people and destroyed many homes.

Among the issues they raised with the minister were simplifying the application process for the emergency subsidies approved by the government, needed measures to ensure public health, including cleaning up the debris, refuse and burned trees in their areas, and restoring the traffic lights and street lighting.

Skourletis explained in detail the new government measures to help out the destroyed areas and said that additional short-term staff would be hired in local municipalities to manage the emergencies created by the wildfires.
