In a press conference on the occasion of the annual summit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde clarified that the Fund asks for no new measures, but only for the implementation of what has been agreed. She acknowledged that Greece has done a lot of work and Greeks have made tremendous efforts, saying that the result is “very impressive”.

Furthermore, Mrs. Lagarde stressed that she insists on a debt relief for Greece, for which talks with Europe and Greece continue. Regarding the planned evolution of the European Stability Mechanism into a European Monetary Fund, she underlined that its cooperation with the IMF will not cease.
