“Greece’s fiscal adjustment program is a scandal in respect to democratic procedures”, stated European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici in his interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. More specifically, Pierre Moscovici stated that “It is a scandal in respect to democratic procedures, not because the decisions were scandalous. The scandal lies in deciding in such a way the fate of a people, in scrupulously imposing decisions on pensions, the labour market etc. I am referring to the basic details of a country’s life, which were decided in an organization’s in camera meetings, prepared by technocrats, without the least control of a parliament, without the media knowing what is being said, without standard criteria or a common guideline.”
