The president the New Right party Failos Kranidiotis on Tuesday reported to police that he was the victim of an attack by an unknown assailant while sitting in his car in central Athens.

Kranidiotis, a erstwhile aide of Antonis Samaras when the latter was prime minister and head of the New Democracy party, said the attack took place on Akadimias Street, outside the offices of the Athens Bar Association, as he was getting ready to pull away.

The unidentified individual jumped onto the hood of his car and kicked in his windscreen before running away in the direction of Mavromichali Street, Kranidiotis said.

Police are investigating the incident.
