Since Friday afternoon, the Patras home where the great national poet Kostis Palamas was born, has opened its doors to the city, thanks to the generous offer of California Greek-American businessman Athanassios Stephanopoulos. Mr. Stephanopoulos bought the building and covered all expenses for its conversion into a “House of Letters”, dedicated to the great poet. The official opening of the “Kostis Palamas House of Letters” will take place on January 13, 2018.

Head of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, Mr. Michalis Kokkinos, met with the President of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI), Nick Larigakis, and a twelve-member delegation of Greek-American students from various US universities. The meeting was held in the context of the AHI’s annual visit to Greece And Cyprus.

In the following days, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is set to dispatch $30000 in financial assistance to comfort the inhabitants of Lesbos who suffered from the severe June 12th earthquake. The amount comes both from the Philoptochos Brotherhood and from a special fund of the Archdiocese.
