Former Northern Territory Government MP, Costas Vatskalis, is running for the office of Darwin mayor in the upcoming August 26th elections in Australia, hoping to become the state capital’s first Greek-Australian mayor. Mr. Vatskalis was born in Kefalonia and grew up in Athens before arriving to Australia at the age of 27.

Following the initiatives of the Federation of Greek Communities and Brotherhoods, of the Philhellenic Society of Italy and of its former President, Yiannis Korinthios, the Italian Senate has asked the country’s government to submit a proposal to UNESCO towards the inscription of Latin and Greek in the Intangible Cultural Heritage list, characterizing the two languages as” a unifying element of Western civilization”.
