Following the second round of the presidential elections in Cyprus, held on Sunday, outgoing President Nicos Anastasiades (Democratic Rally) was reelected President for a second term, with 56% of the votes, against 44% in favor of Stavros Malas (Progressive Party of Working People). 73% of the citizens voted in the second round, against 71.8% that had voted in the first round. Nicos Anastasiades won 225,281 votes (56%), while Stavros Malas won 169,243 votes (44%).

In his first statement after his reelection, Greek-Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades stressed, “Tonight there are no winners and losers; there is only our Cyprus, which wins”. “The verdict of the people is respected”, said Stavros Malas on his part.
