One of the Lesvos Petrified Forest’s four parks will remain closed during the summer season. Following five years of management by the Petrified Forest Natural History Museum, the park at the Bali Alonia location is under new management by the decentralized administration’s Forests Department, and some hiring requirements and maintenance work required by the Forests Department were not concluded in time for the park to be open.

However, visitors can still visit the other three open air museum locations, take part in the many activities at the Sigri Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest, and be informed about this remarkable natural monument.

The Museum of Natural History notes that, in the Lesvos Petrified Forest area, three of the four existing parks at the Sigri Petrified Forest (Nissiopi, Sigri and Plaka parks), as well as Lesvos Petrified Forest Natural History Museum are open to visitors. In those three parks, visitors can admire a number of fossilized trunks in their natural site.

The Lesvos Petrified Forest Natural History Museum is making every effort to inform and serve visitors, providing high quality information services about the monument’s creation and importance.
