“Careful handling and patience are needed. Sooner or later, Turkey will realize that any thought of utilizing a common cross-border incident for other purposes is dead-end and will prove detrimental to herself”, said Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras addressing the informal government council, which convened on Tuesday, regarding the issue of the two Greek military officers who remain in custody in the neighboring country for illegal entry in a restricted military zone. The Greek Premier also spoke over the phone with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and asked him to transfer a message to the Turkish side concerning the need for a prompt and positive outcome of the matter.
On her part, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated, after the meeting of the European defense ministers in Brussels, that the council of ministers was informed of the incident by their Greek counterpart and expressed its solidarity to Greece, as well as its hope for a positive outcome of this matter.
