Following an urgent meeting at Maximos Mansion, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated that the disaster caused by harsh weather conditions in Western Attica is “a very difficult time for all Greece”. In a televised address to the citizens, he expressed his deep regret and offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims. He committed that the government will stand by their side and declared a national day of mourning as a result of the tragedy.

The Greek Premier also stressed that there will be a thorough investigation to specify the reasons behind the tragedy, so that the country will never again experience such a disaster. At the same time, he underlined that all necessary measures are taken to respond to the extreme weather conditions throughout the country, since they are expected to be intense in the following hours.
