Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras together with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I attended, on Wednesday morning, the delivery ceremony of the Edicule at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The restoration works, which had been delayed for almost 200 years due to disagreements among the religious denominations, started in June 2016, following a proposal by Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.

Greeks living abroad funded great part of the restoration works and the project now reflects the unanimity of the denominations that agreed last year on said project. The restoration of the Edicule at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was conducted by a multidisciplinary group of the National Technical University of Athens and is considered a project of global value.
