The heads of Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Malta are attending, on Wednesday, the 4th EU South Summit held in Rome. The EU Mediterranean countries are preparing a declaration for a more sovereign, social and democratic Europe. The need to reform the Eurozone, with a common budget and a direction more friendly to growth, will also be underlined.
“Med 7” supports the initiatives on labor acquis and social protection, while particular emphasis is put on tackling the migration issue, with more solidarity towards “frontline countries”, such as Greece and Italy. PM Alexis Tsipras is also expected to put forward the issue of respecting international law in the Aegean, as well as the issue concerning a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue.
