Thessaloniki police have launched an investigation into an incident where two men were pushed into the sea along the waterfront, at the start of the 7th Thessaloniki Pride Parade in the city.

A 36-year-old Italian national and a 45-year-old Greek reported that they were heading toward the street where the parade was due to start at 20:00 on Saturday when they were victims of an unprovoked attack, in which a group of unknown individuals approached and pushed them into the sea.

The two men were pulled out with the help of passers-by and are in good health. Police and an ambulance were immediately sent to the scene and removed them to safety, taking them to hospital as a precaution.

Shortly before the end of the parade, police detained four individuals, possibly in connection with the incident.
