With pollution control operations continuing after the sinking of “Agia Zoni II” tanker off the coast of Salamina last month, the situation in the sea area of the Saronic Gulf is considered improved. After the meeting of the pollution control coordination body, it was announced that there is no surface marine pollution in Salamina, while eight divers are still taking part in seabed cleaning operations. Apart from the pollution control floating barriers on Salamina island, all the other floating barriers in Ellinikon and Glyfada areas have been removed.

The samplings conducted by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research in seawater, off the coast of the Saronic Gulf, in September 21 and 22, 2017, have ascertained that the specified values regarding concentrations of total oil hydrocarbons are considered normal.
