Positive messages emerged from the ASTA conference, Athens Destination Expo 2018, held from April 14 to April 16, on the prospects of US incoming tourism.
Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura estimated that US tourists arrivals will exceed one million this year.
In the context of the conference events, with more than 500 participants that included 350 American tour operators, more than 1,100 b2b meetings were held between Greek and American professionals.
ASTA chairman Zane Kerby said he was impressed by the interest shown. He also said he was thrilled by the hospitality of the conference in Athens and the support of the Ministry of Tourism, the GNTO and FedHATTA in organising it.
The large number of US tour operators, he said, is an indication that US professionals see great potential for increasing sales of holidays in Greece, which translates into more US tourists in Greece.
The US is the 11th most important inbound tourism market in Greece in terms of arrivals and the 4th in terms of revenues.
As he pointed out, Americans are now traveling abroad more than ever, they are looking for new destinations around the world and Greece responds to their needs, such as safety, wellness tourism, culture and authentic experiences.
