Alternate Foreign Minister George Katrougalos underlined the importance of the release of the two Greek servicemen from a Turkish jail in Edirne, in an interview with the Saturday edition of "Nea" newspaper adding that it was 'an important diplomatic success".

"It is an important diplomatic success, the fruit of a systematic effort that was carried out in the last months" he said adding that the diplomacy of principles that Greece has followed "showed to Turkey that the smoothing of its relations with the West, particularly with Europe, passes from Greece and the release of the two servicemen".

He also appeared reassuring over the possibility Turkey to harden it stance in the Aegean or in the Southeastern Mediterranean "Until now it seems the opposite", he said.

Referring to Greece's relations with Russia, Katrougalos noted that "short reckonings make long friends".
