Six Syrian men were sent back to their country on Thursday, under the provisions of the EU-Turkey Statement on migration, police said.

Five of them had withdrawn their application for asylum while the sixth had his asylum application rejected at a secondary-level asylum hearing.

The repatriation procedure was carried out in a plane leased by the European border agency FRONTEX, which took off from Mytilene airport to fly to Adana, Turkey.

A total of 2,533 foreign nationals have voluntarily returned to their countries since the EU-Turkey agreement on migration began to be implemented.
