Starting on Sunday, March 11, ASIFA HELLAS, the Hellenic Animation Association, will be organizing Sunday screenings of animation films from around the world at the DANAOS Cinema (109 Kifissias Avenue, Athens; Panormou metro station). The screenings, scheduled to run for four consecutive Sundays under the general title “Animation Matinees @ Danaos,” are part of the #GreekAnimationRocks initiative.
All major Greek festivals and animation schools have been invited to present the films and creators that have been stood out in previous years. Thus, on Sunday, March 11th, short film anthologies, featuring mostly international works, of Syros’ Animasyros festivals and Chania’s Chaniartoon will be screened. Opening the screenings will be the 3D Antonis Doussias and Aris Fatouros film “Aenigma,” which was awarded the Greek Film Academy’s Iris Animation award last year.
On Sunday, March 18, it will be Animfest’s, the Athens International Festival’s turn to present the work of the charismatic Israeli creator and animation professor Rony Oren and of his students. Then, on the 25th, the work of students from four Greek animation schools will be screened; and on the final, April 1 screening, the Thessaloniki Animation Festival will select a children’s program to be screened. Each screening begins at 4pm, and runs for 2 hours.
