The issue of reducing Greek taxes is a national necessity and will be resolved by New Democracy (ND) and its leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis once he becomes prime minister, main opposition ND vice president Adonis Georgiadis said on Friday.

Speaking on Friday to Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio Praktoreio 104.9FM, Georgiadis noted, "The matter of tax reduction is a national necessity because if ND does not find a way to reduce the taxes, Greece will be destroyed", adding that the government's implemented policy "does not leave any room for the Greek economy to move ahead".

Asked to comment on the completion of Greece's programme on August 20, the ND deputy said that "Greece will have a memorandum at least until the end of 2022, as under the laws of ruling coalition partners Alexis Tsipras and Dimitris Kammenos we have committed our budgets to the total control of the IMF, the European Central Bank and the European Commission."
