The islands of South Aegean and Crete were among the 30 most popular tourist destinations in the EU during 2015 with 23.4 and 23.3 million overnight stays recorded according to Eurostat.

The Canary Islands (Spain) are the most popular tourist destination in the EU during 2015, with 94 million overnight stays.

According to the European Statistical Office, almost 90% of bed nights in the EU are made by EU residents, which means that tourists from non-EU countries represent only about 10% of the total. When EU residents travel they spend almost 85% of their tourist overnight stays in the EU and only 15% outside the EU.
