Talking on ERT, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated that the name “Republic of Northern Macedonia” is a significant conquest, and stressed that the agreement can be sustainable and serve mutual interest. This agreement abolishes any effort to arrogate Greek history, and fully establishes the legacy of ancient Macedonia as a Greek legacy, without underestimating the right of the citizens of the neighboring country in self-determination, the Prime Minister said.
Mr. Tsipras repeated that the constitutional amendment should first take place in FYROM and the agreement should be ratified, so that it is also presented to the Greek Parliament for ratification. “Obviously, if the agreement is not ratified by the Parliament of our neighbors, it will be annulled. I believe that the agreement will be ratified by the Greek Parliament,” he added.
