The 75th Venice Film Festival closed on Saturday night with the awards ceremony. The president of the jury, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, awarded the Golden Lion to his compatriot, Alfonso Cuaron, for his film Roma.
Greek film director Yorgos Lanthimos won two major awards for his film “The Favorite”: the Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Award for Best Actress to Olivia Colman for her role as Queen Anne.
“I’m so excited,” said the 44-year-old actress as she received the award and thanked her co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz as well as Yorgos Lanthimos for giving her a role she loved so much.
For his part, the Greek filmmaker thanked his colleagues and in particular the three incredible actresses with whom he collaborated.
This is the second prize the Greek film director wins at the Venice Film Festival, after his first award for the script of his film “Alps”.
