On Tuesday, FYROM’s Prime Minister Zoran Zaev stated that his country is ready to accept a geographical qualifier to its name, adding that the country’s cabinet has decided to rename the capital’s airport from “Alexander the Great International Airport” to “Skopje International Airport”, and the highway leading to the borders with Greece from “Alexander the Macedonian Highway” to “Friendship Highway”.

The Greek Foreign Ministry has welcomed this decision of FYROM’s government, saying that it is a positive step and an important development. “[It] is a positive step towards reversing what has happened in the past decade and created tensions in the relations between the two countries. This is an important development in the direction of dealing with irredentism, and we hope that it marks the start of a new chapter in the relations between our two countries and peoples”, reads the announcement.
