The current situation in Libya and the course of efforts for peace and a political solution were discussed at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, convened by the Council’s German presidency.

According to a written statement, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stressed the need for an immediate end to foreign interventions in Libya and the faithful observance of the arms embargo. Two parameters that fuel the conflict and cause further instability in the country and the wider region.

Greece is actively supporting the United Nations’ efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire and the return of the opponent parties to the negotiations, with the aim of reaching a political solution. The constant goal of our country is, the Greek minister emphasizes in his written statement, peace in Libya and the consolidation of security and stability in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
