A 70-year-old man who suffered from serious underlying health conditions, died of complications from coronavirus at Kastoria hospital.

He is the sixth patient to die from coronavirus in our country, as confirmed by EODY’s spokesman and infectious disease expert Sotiris Tsiodras, at today’s press conference. Mr. Tsiodras also said that there are 46 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 464 in our country. Specifically, 78 patients are hospitalized, of which 16 are intubated.

Mr. Tsiodras cited the computational models used by the NTUA Scientist Task Force, which show that the actual number of incidents is estimated at around 3,000.

He also referred to the first baby born of a woman who had tested positive to the novel coronavirus. The infant has tested negative and both he/she and the mother are in a hospital in Attica. Mr. Tsiodras talked about the treatments that are being tested and estimated that a vaccine would not be available earlier than this summer.

“All this does not change our basic knowledge that in the vast majority of cases, it will be a mild disease”, said Mr. Tsiodras.
