Greek coast guard rescued 67 migrants, whose boat had run aground on two islets, south of the island of Sapientza off the coast of Pylos, Peloponnese, early on Friday morning.

Coast guard vessels picked up the migrants, adults and children of various nationalities and ferried them to the mainland, to be registered by the Greek authorities.

The original number of people on the boat as well as the reason why they were so far away from the main migrant routes in the eastern Aegean or where they were heading to, still remain unknown.
