A new, unique exhibition offers a different view of the Delos archaeological site. “SIGHT” by British artist Sir Antony Gormley, is an exhibition of modern sculptures and the outcome of NEON Organization’s collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades.

By re-settling the island with 29 iron “bodyforms”, Gormley manages not only to restore the human presence that has been missing in Delos for centuries, but also to create a trip from unexpected meetings, in which the viewer is the protagonist.

“Basically, my work has no certainty to convey, it only poses questions. Like for example, what is human life, what is the body, what is the relationship between body and spirit, the relationship between different bodies. Essentially my work is an open invitation to a reflection on these fundamental issues”, notes the artist.

“SIGHT exhibition is essentially a channel, a catalyst to read Delos in a new way. In a way that it becomes personal for each visitor, via the creative gaze of an inspired artist. We therefore call on everyone to come to Delos, tour the archaeological site with the sculptures of Antony Gormley and connect to the past in their own way”, said Dimitris Athanasoulis, director of the Cyclades Ephorate, who also had the initiative for the organization of a modern visual installation in Delos.

The sculptures are scattered in 29 different locations on the island (apart from Apollonius Sanctuary). Visitors encounter the first sculpture, while on the boat that is taking them to Delos. This unique visual arts installation opened on May 2 and will last until October 31, 2019.
