For the first time in the history of the US Congress, a bill is being drafted stipulating that the Foreign Minister should submit a list to the House of Representatives with the number of violations of Greece’s airspace and of Cyprus’ EEZ. In addition, the same bill calls for the lifting of the US arms embargo on the Republic of Cyprus.

This is a cross-party initiative, as the bill is submitted by both Republicans and Democrats and reflects US support of a tripartite cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

One of the speakers, Democratic senator Bob Menendez, stressed that this bill seeks to update the US strategy in the Eastern Mediterranean, in the light of the discovery of large gas plots in Cyprus’ EEZ and the deterioration of Turkey’s relations, both with the US and all of Washington’s key regional partners.
