The Greek government is expected to finalize, on Wednesday, the final proposal for closing the fiscal gap after 2018; Alternate Finance Minister George Chouliarakis will present this proposal to the EuroWorking Group in Brussels, on Thursday. The Prime Minister together with the government’s top economic officials will discuss the main points of the proposal. It is said that the proposal will also include a scenario for a new decrease of the tax-free threshold.

At the same time, Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Governor of the Bank of Greece Yannis Stournaras criticize the IMF’s harsh evaluation of Greece’s economy, in their letters to the IMF Board, following the IMF report on Greece’s debt sustainability and economic prospects. Mr. Tsakalotos stated that the report “is not fair in many areas”, while “many conclusions are not consistent” with the economic data. The IMF report raises many questions, underestimates any progress made and has included only the “worst-case” scenarios, stated Yannis Stournaras in his letter.
