The “Antikythera Shipwreck”, the Greek National Archaeological Museum exhibition that ran from 2012 to 2014 and attracted 800,000 visitors, will travel to Beijing and will run from September 15 to December 16 2018. However, the two famous artifacts, the Youth statue and the Antikythera Mechanism, will not be among the exhibits due to their fragility and global importance.
That was the case back in 2015 when the exhibition that featured more than 370 findings, first travelled to the Basel Museum of Ancient Art and Ludwig Collection, in Switzerland. The new exhibition, which features 342 antiquities from the National Archaeological Museum, as well as an artifact from the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities, will “travel” to Beijing’s Palace Museum.
The exhibition is organized at the Chinese Museum’s request for which the Central Archaeological Council has approved.
