For the third consecutive year, Athens was named the fourth most popular destination in Europe by electronic votes of about three million visitors from 174 countries at the www.europeanbestdestinations.com website.
Athens remained among the five top destinations for 2017 while Porto, Portugal, remains the No 1 destination.
At the same time and with the aim of creating a three continents’ «mega destination», the Travel Agency Associations of Greece and Israel signed an agreement establishing a Carrier that will contribute to tourism development in the wider Eastern Mediterranean.
For 2017, estimates point to a rise of at least 15% of visitors from Israel.
