Athens is expecting Turkey’s confirmation of its true intentions regarding the de-escalation of tension, insisting that it is the only way to establish a solid ground for negotiations, after the return of Oruc Reis to Antalya.
The issue is expected to be discussed at the meeting Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will have today at the Maximos Mansion with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in the framework of the preparation of the EU Summit. Statements will be made immediately afterwards.
In addition, today, at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, the Greek and Turkish military representatives will hold their third meeting together with an Alliance official, seeking the common framework that will allow the start of a bilateral dialogue regarding a disengagement mechanism. Turkey, however, insists on provoking, by issuing an anti-NAVTEX for the demilitarization of Chios.
Furthermore, issues of bilateral and regional interest, with emphasis on developments in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region and Libya, will be at the center of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias’ talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, during his official visit to Athens. In the afternoon, the Egyptian official will be received by the Prime Minister.
