The Athens Photo World (APW) is a new initiative that focuses on cultural and photography events in Athens, based on an idea of Thanasis Stavrakis, Associated Press Chief Photographer Greece.

From June 7 to 16, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the APW will host a series of exhibitions and events, featuring some of the best contemporary photographers, Greek and foreign. The Athens Photo World aims to showcase the work of photojournalists and their contribution to shaping the image of our world and documenting moments of history in the making, in times of political and social upheaval and reclassification.

APW features seven exhibitions and six events, all centered in modern photojournalism and its protagonists, with the participation of well-known Greek and foreign professionals with extensive experience and different perspectives.

The APW is organized with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation donation and the collaboration of important institutions such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the City of Athens Culture Net.

In its first edition, APW pays tribute to photojournalist Yiannis Behrakis, focusing on his longstanding, rich and award-winning work. APW’s organization was also developed with the valuable help of Yannis Behrakis’ team . His ideas, his experience, his work and his personality were an inspiration for the APW organizers and they will always honor his memory and his contribution to the Greek and international photojournalism.

APW’s central theme is “Everyday Life in the World” featuring photographs that capture cities, countries and moments. The exhibitions will be accessible to everyone, daily and with free entrance.
