The use of chemical substances against pensioners on Monday’s protest march in Athens, caused the Greek PM’s intervention. Alexis Tsipras asked for such incidents not to be repeated in the future.

Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas assumed political responsibility and issued a mandate prohibiting all use of tear gas during workers and pensioners demonstrations.

Mr. Toskas asked for an immediate investigation to be conducted in order to ascertain the facts and circumstances under which the events unfolded.

Similarly, the General Police Division of Attica ordered an administrative inquiry into the events.
