Chinese Minister for Transport Li Xiaopeng met with Greek Minister for Shipping Fotis Kouvelis in Athens on Monday, and asked that the Greek State support Cosco so that its investment plans in Piraeus are expedited.

The Chinese Minister said that the investment in Piraeus port is an example of strategic choice and a base for the further linking of the two countries’ development strategies. He also stressed China’s interest in investments in our country, specifically referring to the Chinese “Belt and Road” initiative that may further broaden the bilateral Greek-Chinese relations in the sector of sea transport.

On his part, Mr. Kouvelis asked that these investments create added value in the local and national economy, and that the environmental laws be followed in the implementation of the investment plan.
