Ornaments, strings of lights, and games combined with a host of special events and activities, fill every corner of the city with light, sprinkle glitter everywhere, and make Athens the most magical destination for this holiday season for everyone, young and old, residents and visitors.

The program started on December 7th and for a whole month, it features 60 artists ensembles, 50 concerts & pop-up events, 60 family activities, 3 open air screenings, 1 pop-up museum, 1 fairytale village, 1 illuminated trail, impressive projection mappings & countless surprises, taking place at 76 spots all over the city.

Christmas lights have already started to switch on throughout the city with the valuable support of various firms, institutions, bodies and associations within the framework of the “Adopt your city” initiative. On Dionysiou Areopagitou street, we are greeted by a dazzling surprise!

The Athens Digital Arts Festival presents for the first time, a Christmas Light Festival, featuring imaginative and interactive art installations, Christmas trees and stars, a colorful forest made of pixels, magical sprigs of mistletoe and much more.

The launch of music events on Syntagma square will take place on December 21 and 22, with the Glasshouse project “We play your wish!”, an original glass jukebox. Famous djs and popular radio producers, along with two guest djs, the Dutch Jochen Miller and Xenia Ghali, team up for a good cause.

Every day throughout the city – even in the most unexpected places, there will be more than 50 pop-up events, concerts and dance shows. Well known and emerging artists, together with dance groups, promise to out us in a festive mood and fill us with joy.

And since Christmas is a time of the year dedicated to children, the city of Athens proposes a series of special activities for the whole family such as art workshops, fairy tales and children’s shows, that will take place in museums, libraries, art galleries, the city Cultural Center and other important municipal sites.

Are you ready to experience the most fabulous Christmas Eve ever? On December 24th, the sky at Kotzia Square will be filled with the traditional Night of Lights lanterns, lighting up the city with our wishes while enjoying a spectacular audiovisual show against the backdrop of the city hall, curated by the Athens Digital Arts Festival.

On December 27-29 the junction of Ermou and Asomaton streets in Thissio will be transformed into a cozy outdoor cinema in collaboration with the Athens International Film Festival.

The festivities will culminate on New Year’s Eve where we will bid farewell to 2019 and look forward to the new year with a spectacular show at Syntagma Square, along with Athens’ Mayor Konstantinos Bakoyannis and the  hosts Themis Georgandas and Nadia Boule.
